Guyana scored a comfortable nine-wicket win over Bermuda in Coolidge to complete the quarter-final line-up of the Stanford 20/20. Chasing 63 to win after Bermuda were restricted to 62 for 9, Guyana achieved the target with 8.4 overs to spare for the loss of only Travis Dowlin.

Sewnarine Chattergoon and Ramnaresh Sarwan got off to slow starts after Dowlin was caught behind by wicketkeeper Ricardo Brangman off Traddie Simpson at 10 for 1. Guyana crawled to 17 off five overs but after seeing off left-arm spinner Dwayne Leverock, who bowled tightly from the northern end, and Simpson, runs came freely as they approached the target.

Sarwan took nine deliveries to get off the mark but in the sixth over he lofted Simpson over extra cover for six as Guyana took 14 runs off the over. Unlike Leverock and Simpson, Ryan Steede and Irving Romaine were more expensive, which made the chase easier for Guyana, though Sarwan was put down twice during this period. Eventually Guyana reached the target in the 12th over with both Chattergoon and Sarwan remaining unbeaten on 31 and 24 respectively.

Earlier, Bermuda, despite losing only James Celestine, who was caught off Christopher Barnwell in the fourth over, managed only 40 runs off the first eight overs. David Hemp, Bermuda's most experienced first-class cricketer having played 253 matches for Free State, Glamorgan, and Warwickshire, played a couple of fine strokes before he was caught behind, cutting at a rising delivery from fast bowler Christopher Barnwell.

Hemp put on 20 for the first wicket with Celestine and added 18 for the second with Garvin Aparicio, who was dismissed leg before by Lennox Cush. Thereafter Bermuda lost six wickets for 10 runs as they collapsed from 47 for 3 to 57 for 9. The record low beat Turks and Caicos ' 67 against Montserrat.

During the collapse, Cush also dismissed Ricardo Brangman and Ryan Steede, both caught without scoring while Neil McGarrell had captain Romaine and Lionel Cann, both caught and bowled.

Mahendra Nagamootoo chipped in with two wickets, including Leverock , who had received a small standing ovation from 5,000 spectators on his way to the middle. Cush picked up 3 for 9 for Guyana while McGarrell, Nagamootoo and Barnwell took two each.

Romaine said Bermuda "were relying on the top four" but once they departed it was all over, because "the other guys were inexperienced". However, he said "it was an experience for them" and promised a better performance next year.

Guyana joined Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Barbados and Nevis in the final eight. The tournament resumes on Wednesday with Trinidad against St. Vincent.
