†AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES 1986-87

At Perth, January 4

15-Apr-1988
At Perth, January 4. West Indies won by 164 runs. Greenidge's first one-day international hundred against Australia, made without a chance off 120 balls, and an uncharacteristic miss by Waugh at long-off early in Holding's punishing 53 not out, set up West Indies' victory in a game in which only pride was at stake. West Indies had never lost three successive internationals and, having scored 255 for eight after being put in, they avoided that stigma without difficulty. A demoralised Australia were no match for Garner, Gray, Walsh and Holding on a bouncy pitch and were bowled out in 144 minutes. It was the first game in the tournament played in poor spirit, and Marsh was hit in the throat by one of several bouncers which West Indies appeared to bowl gratuitously and without regard to the possibility of being no-balled.
Man of the Match: C. G. Greenidge. Attendance: 22,335.
